I thought I take a moment and share this with you. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. It’s very important to have discipline and structure in your life. After all someone said, failure isn’t a cataclysmic event but a few errors in judgement that are repeated every day. Lack of disciplines will result in failure over a period of time.

1) Sacrifice :

You do not have discipline because you are not willing to sacrifice. To be disciplined is to live the way of the warrior. You sacrifice momentary pleasures and stimulation, in exchange for the nurturing of a purpose. Start here, find a purpose. Pick your sacrifice

2) Be hungry :

Being disciplined isn’t hard as it’s perceived to be. To make this into a lifestyle, start looking at the world through the lens of growth, opportunities and conquests. When you are hungry for success you will find the discipline to be devoted to something.

3) Choices & Direction :

Your life is a series of choices and their consequences. Pick a direction you want your life to go in & make choices that will take you there. This happens at every moment – this is not a one time thing. This must be integrated into who you are.

4) Too much clutter :

Be organised, start by arranging that desk, that room, making that bed and you will notice the less cluttered your life is the less stressful your day is. If you can’t organise your physical world you can’t organise your mind. Secondly, get rid of things you don’t need. This applies to teachers and parents as well. You don’t need a tablet, a laptop and two phones.

Have more of what elevates you, less of what enslaves you.

5) Shifting perspective :

You can’t study at home with that phone on the table, you can’t study on the couch or in bed, it never works. You can’t come from Tiktok to study chemistry. Your mindset so far has been to indulge in short term pleasures. This will get you nowhere. Once that dopamine hits you are depleted, All thoughts of goals go right out the window. A change in perspective is what will change you..

Think big picture.

6) Tortoise vs Rabbit :

When you try to do too many things at once you will burn out and give up. Remember, this is a marathon. Start off with one goal or one habit you want to change. Use the power of compounding effects. Make small incremental improvements everyday.

7) Goal Setting :

Have a huge goal. Have a great vision. You are trying to be the best version of yourself. Don’t settle for less. Break it down into specific tasks. Accomplish these tasks on a daily basis to build momentum. Small wins build momentum towards your goal.

8) Routine and Systems :

To get these small wins everyday, essentials are routines and systems. Having a routine gives you order and stability. You know what to do at each moment and no time is wasted. Let’s say you are struggling in maths, start from the basics. Two classes down, what topics eluded you? Consult each day three questions on a topic. Build systems to make your path linear.

9) Reframing situations :

Along the way, failures are unavoidable. Everyone fails. The ones who win, learn from them and move on.

Reframing a failure as a learning opportunity is a great way to grow. Failed at that subject? Leverage the emotions you felt, find friends to work with and revise with the help of the teacher in areas you failed.

10) Energy allocation :

No mortal has infinite energy. The amount of energy you have can be vastly improved still finite. Focus on the things that truly matter and give you maximum return on investment. Use the 80/20 rule, basically work smart.

This is how to be productive and move incrementally toward your goal.

11) Fear :

Fear is good, Use it wisely. How you approach fear matters the most. Do not be afraid of your goals, be afraid of not accomplishing them. Be afraid of not getting those As and Bs. Be terrified of living an unfulfilled life with wasted potential. Use this fear to propel you in making the right choices.

12) Transcend your emotions :

The easiest way to do things you hate to do is to remove your ‘self’ out of the equation. You hate chemistry? Think of the opportunity Chemistry, Maths and other ‘’harder’ subjects offer you. You don’t have to love what you do, but you have to love the opportunity what you do offers. This gets you out of your head and you don’t dwell on negative emotion.

I wish you the best on the journey to be disciplined.
